This trend continues with Pushpa 2 (2025) at 3 hours 20 minutes and Dhurandhar, the 2025 Hindi cinema juggernaut, pushing the boundaries at 3 hours and 34 minutes. And guess what? All three were box office triumphs. Now, brace yourselves for Border 2 to join this elite club! Bollywood Hungama has exclusively learned that this period war drama will surpass the 3-hour mark, with an expected runtime of around 3 hours and 20 minutes.
But here's where it gets controversial: Is this trend of lengthy films a sign of evolving audience preferences, or are filmmakers testing the limits of viewer patience? A source close to Border 2 revealed to Bollywood Hungama, “The film’s duration is approximately 200 minutes, or 3 hours and 20 minutes. While the final runtime might tweak slightly after the finishing touches, it’s safe to say it’s a substantial watch.”
And this is the part most people miss: The filmmakers justify the length by emphasizing the need to authentically portray the war depicted in the film. With a star-studded cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, each actor’s storyline demands ample screen time to do justice to their characters. The source added, “The film is packed with dramatic, high-energy, and patriotic moments designed to keep viewers on the edge of their seats, cheering and whistling throughout.”
Directed by Anurag Singh, known for Kesari (2019), Border 2 is produced by J P Dutta (who helmed the original Border in 1997), Nidhi Dutta, Bhushan Kumar, and Krishan Kumar of T-Series. Strategically releasing on January 23, the film aims to capitalize on the Republic Day holiday weekend, starting January 26.
January 2026 is shaping up to be the month of marathon movies. Border 2 isn’t the only film crossing the 3-hour mark. The Raja Saab, releasing this week, clocks in at 3 hours and 9 minutes, while Jana Nayagan is expected to run for 3 hours and 3 minutes.
