Japan's First Floating Wind Farm is Now Operational: A Revolutionary Step Towards Renewable Energy
TOKYO, Jan 5 - Toda Construction has announced the commencement of commercial operations at the Goto offshore wind farm in Nagasaki, marking a significant milestone in Japan's renewable energy journey. This groundbreaking project is the country's first floating wind farm, a pioneering step towards achieving its ambitious 2050 carbon-neutral goal.
The 16.8-megawatt (MW) floating wind farm is a testament to Japan's commitment to sustainable development. It was the first facility to be certified under a new law introduced by the industry and land ministries, designed to promote the growth of the renewable energy sector. The Goto Floating Wind Farm consortium, led by Toda Construction and comprising Eneos and Osaka Gas, has developed a hybrid spar-type floater. This innovative design features a steel upper section and a concrete lower section, making it a world-first application of this technology.
