Imagine this: Yamaha, a name synonymous with MotoGP, pulled off what many would call a feat of engineering magic. Pramac MotoGP rider Jack Miller is in awe, and for good reason! They managed to conjure a V4-powered M1 prototype, a project that seemed almost impossible, especially considering the time constraints.
Yamaha, after years of racing with an inline-four engine, revealed in 2024 that they were finally developing a V4 engine. This marked a significant shift in their approach to MotoGP. The V4 bike made its debut with Augusto Fernandez as a wildcard at the San Marino Grand Prix, where he impressively secured points with a 14th-place finish. Fernandez rode the bike twice more that season, in Malaysia and Valencia, with Yamaha now fully committed to using the V4 in 2026.
During Pramac’s 2026 livery launch in Siena, Jack Miller couldn't stop praising Yamaha's efforts. "It's an unreal undertaking from Yamaha, what they did last year," he said, highlighting the challenge of developing the new motorcycle alongside the existing M1. "With the time constraints we have with 22 rounds, they made miracles happen." He added, "I believe we have a lot of busy days ahead of us throughout the pre-season, trying to get this thing ready to fight by the time we get to Thailand."
But here's where it gets interesting: Miller also addressed his role in the team, particularly with the arrival of Toprak Razgatlioglu, the three-time World Superbike champion, who is making his MotoGP debut. Miller, entering his 12th season in the premier class, brings a wealth of experience. However, he doesn't see himself as a mentor to Razgatlioglu. "He doesn't need a mentor, I don't think," Miller stated. "He's got plenty of that in Kenan [Sofuoglu, Razgatlioglu’s manager]." Miller emphasized the personal connection, stating, "It's been nice to get to know him as a person. I’m really looking forward to this year. I think it will be a lot of fun. Pramac is generally known for being quite a family-oriented team, and Toprak really embraces that atmosphere.”
